DSP Award Recipient - Ben Dailey
The Portage County Board of Developmental Disabilities is proud to recognize Ben Dailey as the Portage DD Direct Support Professional (DSP) Award Recipient for the month of April 2023. Ben works for Home To You and was nominated by Barb Bailey.
Here is what Barb had to say about Ben:
On behalf of the family I would like to give a Shout-Out to his HPC staff, all of whom deserve thanks and praise for being faithful and loving to him. Together they and we make a cohesive team that supports him day to day, helping him live a good life. While it is difficult to select one staff over another because each person plays such an important role in his life, I want to focus on one particular person who repeatedly goes above and beyond. From the moment he started being with him, Ben Dailey has regularly demonstrated a positive, can-do, calm and nurturing attitude. In addition to his normal HPC responsibilities, Ben keeps a close eye on his food and supply inventories, making purchases locally and via mail-order, and alerting family as needs arise so together they keep his house well-stocked. More recently, when he needed oral surgery, Ben was an amazing teammate to work with as we supported him through it all. Ben ensured that hospital pre-surgery requirements were met, including keeping him active so that he wouldn’t be upset by not eating breakfast. When the hospital offered one valet parking pass to him, Ben offered to drive us so that together we could help him navigate the hospital safely as he had oral sedative that makes him unstable as he walked. He had never been to the hospital and Ben calmly comforted him and remained present to his needs while I handled paperwork logistics. Ben patiently waited with me during his surgery, ready to join me the moment he got into the recovery room. Ben brought a light-hearted, positive and loving attitude to the room, while we encouraged him to wake up and sip ice water. Each time he flicked off the pulse ox, Ben gently placed it back on his finger while we all giggled, including him! The nurses and staff all expressed how pleased they were to meet us, mentioning how rare it is that they witness such joy, love and respect we have for one another. Thank you Ben for all you do! Keep on keeping on!
The Direct Support Professional (DSP) of the Month Award is for those staff who provide direct support or direct services for individuals served throughout Portage County.
This award is an opportunity to nominate someone who has gone above and beyond to improve the lives of individuals with developmental disabilities while also promoting independence and inclusion.
Individual award recipients will receive public recognition from Portage DD and be promoted on our social media channels. Award recipients will also later be considered for Direct Support Professional of the Year.
All nominations will be kept on file for review and consideration for a period of 12 months after initial submission.
