DSP Award Recipient - Brittany Fowler

The Portage County Board of Developmental Disabilities is proud to recognize Brittany Fowler as a Portage DD Direct Support Professional (DSP) Award Recipient.  Brittany is an Independent Provider and was nominated by SSA Lori Murphy.

Here is what she had to say about Brittany:

Brittany Fowler is a Shared Living Provider for Samantha.  Brittany has been providing Shared Living Support to Samantha approximately 1 ½ years. They met at a previous Adult Day Program in which Samantha had attended and Brittany was employed. Brittany and Samantha began to form a friendship and Brittany volunteered to take Samantha to places of interest as well as welcoming her to her home and family. Samantha expressed interest in living with Brittany. Brittany then proceeded to become a HPC provider and Samantha selected Brittany as her provider. Brittany has made a positive impact on Samantha, providing day to day support to better assist Samantha in becoming more independent in areas that Sam did not think she could do on her own. Brittany’s kindness, patience and dedication to Samantha have not gone unnoticed.

Brittany consistently communicates with Samantha’s team members as far as what Samantha has been up too, ideas of how to address certain situations as well as just keeping that communication occurring so everyone is on the same page.

Brittany was a strong advocate for Samantha in the development of the OISP, encouraging Samantha to speak up and tell her story.

It takes a very special person to provide day to day support and I feel that Brittany has gone above and beyond supporting Samantha on a daily basis as well as considering Samantha as family. I feel Brittany is very deserving of this award.
