Laschelle George - April DSP Award Recipient
The Portage County Board of Developmental Disabilities is proud to recognize a direct support professional who is an employee of Portage Industries, Inc. as the Portage DD Direct Support Professional (DSP) Award Recipient for the month of April. The recipient is Laschelle George.
Laschelle was nominated by Phillip Miller, CEO of Portage Industries, Inc. Here’s what Phillip had to say about Laschelle: Laschelle is a long-term dependable employee and direct service provider. During the month of February, her father passed away. Laschelle took minimal time off work and continued to meet her commitments to the people she serves with a great attitude and persistence through her personal tragedy. She is an example for newer staff and demonstrates flexibility by taking on assignments - some of them on short notice to meet the needs of people she serves.
Debra Gordon, SSA for Portage DD also added this about Laschelle: Laschelle George is an empathetic human who meets people where they are at on their journey of life. She listens objectively with her ears and her heart. Laschelle offers stability, consistency and kindness in her approach to serving others. This woman has opened her home, has prepared home cooked meals, laundered their clothing, provided moral support, transportation without compensation, because to her it was “ the right thing to do”. Laschelle is a direct support professional in a vocational setting. Laschelle is a generous, humble and compassionate person and very much deserves to be recognized as Direct Support Professional of the month.
The Direct Support Professional (DSP) of the Month Award is for those staff who provide direct support or direct services for individuals served throughout Portage County.
This award is an opportunity to nominate someone who has gone above and beyond to improve the lives of individuals with developmental disabilities, while also promoting independence and inclusion.
Individual award recipients will receive public recognition from Portage DD and will be promoted on our social media channels. Award recipients will also later be considered for Direct Support Professional of the Year.
All nominations will be kept on file for review and consideration for a period of 12 months after initial submission.
