#WorkingWednesday with Josh Ebie

Name: Josh Ebie

Where do you work? I am personal shopper at Wal-mart in Brimfield

What is the best part of your job?   Making sure customers get their groceries

What do you do at work that makes you feel proud?  When I make sure their groceries are ready on time and they get the best products.

How long have you worked here? 14 years.

How did you get this job? I applied online. When I started, I was a cart pusher, but my manager helped me get promoted and put in a good word for me.

How do you use technology in your jobs? I use it all the time! My scanner tells me where everything is at, I also clock in on my phone, and get my schedule on the app and get my work emails.

Supervisor quote (Nicholas Betts - Digital Coach): Josh Ebie is an absolute pleasure to have working for me.  In my area of Online Pickup and Delivery, Josh is one of my most consistent grocery pickers.  He always has a high volume of picks done and does the job the right way.  He always is working with a smile and is not afraid of any task presented to him.  Josh and I also share a fondness for Boston Celtics basketball, which we talk about every day he works.

As we celebrate 10 years of being an Employment First state, we recognize the impact that technology has on Employment.

Dave Colgrove, SSA at Portage DD, shared this about Josh’s use of technology at work.

He uses tech provided by Walmart. He is a personal shopper despite having difficulty with reading. My understanding is that the personal shoppers use a handheld device that guides them to the product they are to get. If you look, you’ll notice that the end caps of all the aisles have letters/numbers. I believe the handheld device guides them to the aisle based on the letter/number and then shows a picture of the item.

Nicholas Betts, Digital Coach, shared this about Josh’s use of technology at work:

As for technology helping him do his job,  Walmart is very much with the times and technology is the only way we can accomplish our job.  Josh works with an electronic device called a TC72.  With this device we are able to do our entire job from picking groceries, dispensing orders to customers to helping customers find items or prices for items.  (supervisor)

With supportive companies like Wal-mart embracing technology we are able to level the playing field and make accommodations the norm not the exception. This helps everyone because Ohio works best when we all work!
