Sue Simmons - June DSP Award Recipient

The Portage County Board of Developmental Disabilities is proud to recognize Susan Simmons (Portage Industries, Inc.) as our June Direct Support Professional (DSP) Award Recipient!

Susan was nominated by Juanita Greenwood from Portage Industries, Inc. and Karen Hill from Portage DD. See what they had to say below:

Juanita had this to say about Susan,  “She is committed to providing excellent care and support and she never waivers.  Her love and dedication comes through on everything she does.  She is so committed she gives of herself and her personal resources to ensure the needs of the people she supports are met.  Susan always remember everyone’s Birthday and does something special for them”. 

Karen Hill wrote that “She is dedicated to making life positive”. Nancy Jackson, a former co-worker of Susan also added: “Sue always tries to be positive, even on some of the most exhausting and challenging days with clients. She is helpful and encouraging to her coworkers as well. Her sense of Humor is priceless and something that I truly appreciate and enjoy. She has a fantastic work ethic and comes to work even when she is not feeling her best. She is a really good person from the inside out. Sue is a blessing to all who know her”.

The Direct Support Professional (DSP) of the Month Award is for those staff who provide direct support or direct services for individuals served throughout Portage County.

This award is an opportunity to nominate someone who has gone above and beyond to improve the lives of individuals with developmental disabilities, while also promoting independence and inclusion.

Individual award recipients will receive public recognition from Portage DD and will be promoted on our social media channels. Award recipients will also later be considered for Direct Support Professional of the Year.

All nominations will be kept on file for review and consideration for a period of 12 months after initial submission.
