#WorkingWednesday Summer Youth

Summer is almost here! Will this be the summer you get your first job?  Portage DD and OOD are here to help!

Through Ohio’s Employment First Initiative  OOD and DODD formed a partnership to provide employment opportunities for individuals with disabilities. This partnership

• Utilizes Person Centered Planning.

• Helps job seekers understand how working in the community may impact their benefits.

• Provides a full range of individualized, vocational rehabilitation services designed to meet individuals where they are on their unique path to employment.

• Partners with local county boards of DD to provide long term follow along supports through dually certified providers.

One of the services OOD provides is the Summer Youth Work Experience.  By allowing youth the opportunity to work in a supported environment the youth can get real world experiences to help them when they graduate.   This summer we will check in with some of them and see what experiences they are having with this program.

*Job carving is when you create a job that fits your skills and abilities. Job carving could also include taking tasks from several different positions to design a job to suit one person.  

Portage DD is working to create a team that will support your employment goals. If employment interests you, talk to your SSA. Your SSA can connect you to the resources that can help you assess your interests and skills, help you build skills, prepare for interviews, assist with your resume and employment paperwork, and help with on-the-job assistance.
