#WorkingWednesday Trelleborg

An inclusive workplace is more than just a place where someone with a disability works. It is a place where people with all kinds of differences and disabilities feel welcome and valued for their contributions. It's a place where people with disabilities have the same opportunities for advancement as their co-workers.  This month we are awarding Trelleborg in Aurora that distinction. Trelleborg, a manufacturing facility in Aurora manufactures high-performance sealing profiles, such as building facade seals, automotive cable protectors and fuel tank straps, road, and bridge expansion joint seals, as well as other critical sealing components.  Since the meeting with them In March they have been ahead of the curve in forward thinking ways to approach employment for individuals of all abilities. From immediately offering to do job carving* to making advancement the goal for all employees, they have shown their desire to work with our job seekers to make Trelleborg a place to grow and make a career. Stacy and her team have also opened their facility for tours from job seekers as well as our school aged programs to show what they do. Lastly the Trelleborg team is committed to diversity and inclusion and has Portage DD some in and do a disability etiquette personal development session to assure their key employees were comfortable and prepared to work with people of all abilities.

*Job carving is when you create a job that fits your skills and abilities. Job carving could also include taking tasks from several different positions to design a job to suit one person.

Portage DD is working to create a team that will support your employment goals. If employment interests you, talk to your SSA. Your SSA can connect you to the resources that can help you assess your interests and skills, help you build skills, prepare for interviews, assist with your resume and employment paperwork, and help with on-the-job assistance.

Ready to begin your path to employment or hire your next best employee? Contact Tiffany Jones, Portage DD Community Employment Coordinator at tiffanyj@portagedd.org to get started.
