Portage DD: UI/MUI Training Course

This course satisfies the requirements for the Initial/Annual required training on the MUI Rule, OAC 5123-17-02.  Course content includes a review of types of Unusual and Major Unusual Incidents (UI and MUI), UI logs, UI investigations, MUI reporting requirements, immediate actions, defining Primary Person Involved (PPI) and mandatory reporters.The course also includes Clients Rights, ORC Section 5123.62 and prior year Health and Welfare Alerts.  A certificate of participation will be issued upon completion. Portage DD: First Aid/CPR/AED Training Course

Heartsaver First Aid CPR AED is a video-based, instructor-led course that teaches students critical skills needed to respond to and manage an emergency until emergency medical services arrives. Skills covered in this course include first aid; choking relief in adults, children, and infants; and what to do for sudden cardiac arrest in adults, children, and infants. $40/Individual Information Contact: Karen Hill, Nursing Support Manager, 330-296-8714 or karenh@portagedd.org

DSPaths Advanced Training: Promoting Self Advocacy

Participants will work in this class to describe and demonstrate how actions of the direct support professional best fit the definition of advocate for individuals with developmental disabilities. Participants will investigate different styles of direct support practice in group activities involving role play demonstrate a supportive coaching style of advocacy. Participants will discuss the importance of network building in their advocacy efforts on behalf of individuals they support.

This class delves into concepts of attribution styles and individual’s internal and external locus of control and how maximizing an internal locus of control benefits goal directed decision making and self-advocacy. Discussion also includes forms of legal advocacy including guardianship.

The training is 3 hours. No cost.


Frontline Supervisor Training - Techniques to Address Difficult Employees

This class examines the reasons many supervisors delay in addressing and correcting difficult employees. Class Participants will discuss the different degrees and types of difficulties presented by employees while identifying how supervisory attitudes toward difficult employees either positively or negatively impact resolving difficulties.

The training is 3 hours. No cost.
